Addressing Immigrant Concerns

This District is home to thousands of immigrant families and, as the grandson of immigrants, I understand their struggle directly. Although some may have arrived illegally, in search of better lives for themselves and their children, no one who resides here should be marginalized. Doing so does not address the issue and only drives up the physical and emotional costs.

As your state senator, I would:

  • Continue to support in-state tuition rates for all students who successfully completed three years of high school here in the United States.
  • Resist efforts to use state troopers in the investigation, round up or deportation of undocumented workers.
  • Adequately fund English language training both in the schools and the community.
  • Promote funding for "New Americans" Citizenship programs which encourage voter registration and participation.
  • Support Election Day registration which expands the voter turnout particularly among new citizens.
  • Provide funding for programs like the Chelsea Collaborative which are working to advocate for and integrate immigrants fully into the Community.
